Exercise Science Earns Accreditation

91影视 is proud to announce that its exercise science degree program has been awarded accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

The major is for students interested in the physiological and psychological changes that occur in response to physical activity, and offers two options: human performance or allied health. The accreditation applies to both specialties.

The human performance option prepares students for careers in personal training, group fitness, or strength and conditioning; the allied health option prepares students for careers in healthcare professions such as physical therapy, cardiac rehabilitation, occupational therapy, and athletic training.

The national recognition underscores Keene State鈥檚 commitment to providing quality education and training that meets the national assurance standards established by CAAHEP, said Director of Athletics Marty Testo.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a game-changer for students, graduates, and employers. It confirms the excellence we aspire to in preparing our students to be the work-ready professionals this growing field demands.鈥

Mel Adams, professor of human performance and movement sciences, agreed.

鈥淭his designation affirms what we already knew: 91影视 has an excellent undergraduate exercise science program. And, it will help others know about us, too. We will be listed among premier programs in the U.S. on the CAAHEP website and other search sites.鈥

Adams said Keene State students will now be eligible and specifically prepared for the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Exercise Physiologist certification exam. 鈥淚t recognizes fitness leaders who are well-versed in exercise programming and testing, common health conditions, and can appropriately motivate clients.鈥

Beginning in 2027, only students from accredited programs can sit for the exams, Adams said. 鈥淏eing certified by the ACSM tells employers and clients that, as an institution, we are applying the highest scientific standards in this popular program.鈥

Dr. Barry Eckert, president of CAAHEP, said Keene State graduates in this discipline will have a foundation of knowledge and practical experience that employers seek and know is standards-tested.

鈥淐hoosing a CAAHEP-accredited program is crucial for students seeking a career in allied health. It ensures students receive a comprehensive education aligned with industry needs. This benefits employers and the people receiving care.鈥

Keene State also offers a pre-athletic training specialization for students planning to attend 91影视 for three years, then begin a master鈥檚 degree track at Plymouth State University. It鈥檚 a five-year pathway to a master鈥檚 degree in athletic training.
