DESCRIPTION:At this webinar\, Dr. Ellen Kennedy will examine the weaponiza
 tion of environmental destruction during the Holocaust and in Syria\, Ukra
 ine\, and Nagorno-Karabakh and steps for justice. Ecocide is the mass dama
 ge and destruction of nature: severe\, widespread\, or long-term environme
 ntal devastation caused by unlawful or wanton acts. It is a ‘force multi
 plier’ of violence and often a precursor of genocide and mass atrocities
 . Ecocide is criminalized in countries and regions around the world\, pena
 lizing individuals and organizations that cause it and establishing proced
 ures to prevent it.This event is free and open to the everyone but registr

 s offering.REGISTER HERE--Speaker Biography: Ellen J. Kennedy\, Ph.D.\, Ex
 ecutive Director of World Without Genocide\, has received many awards for 
 her work\, including the Director’s Community Leadership Award from the 
 FBI\, Distinguished Alumni Award from Northern Michigan University\, Woman
  of Valor Award from Forward Global Women\, among many others\, and she is
  designated as a Prominent Minnesotan for her human rights work. Kennedy h
 as a BA degree from the University of Michigan\, three masters’ degrees\
 , and two doctorate degrees from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Kennedy 
 is the representative of World Without Genocide to the UN Department of Gl
 obal Communications. World Without Genocide has Special Consultative Statu
 s to the United Nations.This event is part of the 2026-2027 series on "Gen
 ocide and the Environment" being offered by the Cohen Institute for Holoca
 ust and Genocide Studies at 91Ó°ÊÓ. Speakers in this series r
 epresent a wide range of scholarly research and views\; our guests' perspe
